Supporting DMARC and Fighting Hunger in Iowa

The Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) Food Pantry Warehouse is participating in the Douglas Woods Challenge for March. Doug passed away, in 2021, but his family continues to honor his legacy. His father, from the time Doug was a youngster, gave him the outlets to help the hungry. As an adult, Doug was in the Vietnam War and after returning, he went on to become a deputy in Madison County before he served the West Des Moines Police Department with a 25-year career. This year, in addition to the Woods family, David Simpson and Holly Koltz will, also, join the Woods Challenge for money matching up to $20,000. This challenge cannot happen at a better time with approximately 20,000 children and 71,000 households hunger challenged in Polk County. The price of groceries increasing and SNAP benefit disruptions have strained pantry resources.
