We will select a book of the Bible to read as a group, and then each week we will read together, ask questions and discuss them, and learn and grow in our faith as we study God's word. This will be an informal gathering and open to all who would like to explore the Bible with others. Bring your Bible if you have one. If you don't we'll make one available to you. DMARC Update for November 1

Linda Pennington
DMARC Delegate
HELP IS DIRE FOR ALL WHO FEED THE HUNGRY!!! THOSE WHO ARE HUNGRY COULD BE YOUR WORKING PARTNER OR NEXT-DOOR NEIGHBOR!!! PLEASE CONSIDER A MONETARY DONATION NOW!!! ($10=12.5 MEALS)

The Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) Food Pantry Warehouse has been in the news this week of October 24, 2022. I contacted Rebecca Whitlow, the Food Pantry Network Director. She replied "the reports have simplified the situation and have not reflected the true situation. We have always served the food insecure a 3-day supply of food and will continue to do so. We have extra, anytime food, which is available whenever a pantry is open. How they serve and what they provide is not changing. The agreement put forth by the Food Bank would have forced the network to serve a 3-day supply at all of the pantries. This could allow a person to get 45 days- worth of food in a 30- day period if they chose to go to all of the pantries, plus the anytime food too. Those who would have overloaded on the food are hurting those who abide and the system itself. DMARC still hopes there is a solution in the future between the Food Bank and DMARC, but at this time it is not." Four pantries are under the Food Bank agreement, the other eleven are not.
PLEASE!!! You help is greatly needed at this time. All organizations that help the hungry are seeing great increases!!!  DMARC'S NUMBER ONE DONATION THEY APPRECIATE IS MONEY!!!   If you wish to help, please check out the church's VANCO giving app or you may write a check out to Polk City United Methodist Church and in the memo write "DMARC" and mail to Polk City United Methodist Church, 1421 West Broadway, Polk City, Iowa 50226 ATTN Finance Secretary or place in the offering plate. If you are buying on AmazonSmile please consider a donation to DMARC there.
For volunteering and donations of vehicles. please check out DMARC at www.dmarcunited.org

Our worship series is inspired by the book Everywhere you look: Discovering the church right where you are by Tim Soerens. With God’s dream as our focal point and the Holy Spirit as our partner and guide, we will be invited to look closely, listen deeply, and live into the call God has for us as a church, not in general but in our particular time and place.

Exciting News!

The church is excited about their new church management system which will replace the online directory 12/31/2022.  This management system makes it easier to schedule events, organize volunteers, and place all of the church's tasks under one umbrella.  You will be receiving an e-mail inviting you to create an account for you and your family.  A Breeze app is available to use, also.
Fleece Tie Blanket Mission Project

During the months of September and October we will be collecting fleece to make tie blankets for Bidwell Riverside to distribute to the 1,500+ children they serve at Christmas. One blanket needs two pieces of fleece of 1 2/3 yards each or 2 yards each. Stay away from character print fabrics that a child could lose interest in as they get older. Stay tuned for several opportunities to tie the blankets in October. Questions: Heidi Anderson or Charlotte Loter.

The PCUMC Farmers Market
The Farmer's Market will include produce, fresh and canned, and baked goods. You are welcome to bring a market donation and place it on the Farmer's Market table in the entryway. Customers may then donate cash, as they wish, for items they want. The money  donated will benefit the DMARC Food Pantry Warehouse and the North Polk Comet Cupboard. Items not taken will go to the Comet Cupboard weekly. What a delicious way to combat food insecurity in our community!

DMARC Update for September 1

Linda Pennington
DMARC Delegate
MONEY IS THE NUMBER ONE DONATION THEY PREFER!!

The Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) Food Pantry Warehouse has used this slogan for many years! They can buy more with our money than we can! In this desperate time, of increased cost of living expenses, it could not be more necessary!! Groceries prices are soaring for those who have hungry children returning to schools of which have decreased free lunch programs.
For July 2022, 17,913 total people were assisted with 1,769 being first time pantry visitors. This usage has increased up to 74% over last year's usage. The largest group is adults 18-64 yrs at 38% with the second largest being children 0-17yrs at 34%. Monetary help is needed desperately!!!
PCUMC FARMER'S MARKET: Please bring your beautiful produce to our Farmer's Market inside the front door for customers to buy for donations to DMARC and the Comet Cupboard (information is there)
VOLUNTEER HELP: DMARC appreciates help with their Mobile Pantries, Meals from the Market (Farmer's Market pick up in Des Moines on Saturdays), Door Dash assistance to schedule deliveries
FREE ADMISSION TO THE LAST CUBS HOME GAME, SEPTEMBER 18TH, WITH 3 FOOD ITEMS PER PERSON TO THE DMARC BOOTH THERE
DMARC is partnering with CARS (Charitable Adult Rides and Services) for free will donations of unneeded cars, trucks, motorcycles, RVs or boats for a possible tax deduction for this charitable vehicle donation to DMARC. (call 855-500-7433 if interested)
Returning to the above need for monetary donations......If you wish to help, please check out the church's VANCO giving app or you may write a check out to Polk City United Methodist Church and in the memo write "DMARC" and mail to Polk City United Methodist Church, 1421 West Broadway, Polk City, Iowa 50226 ATTN:Finance Secretary or place in the offering plate. If you are buying on AmazonSmile please consider a donation to DMARC there.
