Polk City United Methodist Church is a progressive community of faith in the heart of Iowa. Worship, small groups, service work, and community fill our lives with purpose and meaning, and we are deeply committed to facilitating those experiences for everyone who comes seeking something here.
what we believe
God: one God revealed in three distinct persons (the mother/father, the son, and the holy spirit)
The Wesleyan view of faith: our core beliefs must be formed by scripture, which is interpreted through tradition, reason, and experience
The Bible: is vital for our faith and life. The writers were people inspired by God. When we read it, we should ask these questions: (1) What did this passage mean to its original hearers and what was its historical context? (2) What part does it play in the Bible's total message? (3) What does it mean for my world today?
God's love: is not conditional. God loves and affirms people of all races, sexual orientations, cultures, backgrounds, gender identities, family dynamics, and walks of life.
